Most of todays window frames are either vinyl, or aluminum. Aluminum normally can withstand more pressure than the vinyl. The glass comes in different thicknesses to accommodate the needs of the areas you are in. We try and push Low-e with our window replacements. It is a treatment that allows light through the glass, but protects from the heat. (a must here in SW Florida) Impact windows and non impact windows still have to meet thermal codes.
